GreenEco Investments LLC signed a cooperation agreement with Tyumen State University at the official opening of the carbon polygon in the Tyumen region

GreenEco Investments LLC, on 30 August, at the official opening of one of the first carbon polygons* in the Russian Federation, signed a cooperation agreement with Tyumen State University on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and related technologies in climate projects. The agreement was signed by Igor Kolesnikov, a member of the supervisory board of GreenEco Investments LLC, and Ivan Romanchuk, the Dean of Tyumen State University.

Within the framework of the signed agreement, the parties intend to cooperate in research and science and technology activities, in particular the development of UAV applications and related technologies for use in forest climate projects, as well as joint commercialization of the results.

GreenEco Investments LLC stressed the importance of the Tyumen Oblast for the development of its business. According to Igor Kolesnikov, a member of the Supervisory Board of GreenEco Investments LLC: «Tyumen is a key region for us; we are already actively working on pilot projects for the implementation of the best world practices in the field of forest management, and on the potential for the reduction of emissions at oil refineries. Decarbonization is one of the most science-intensive industries, that is why we are cooperating with Tyumen State University for joint implementation of environmental monitoring technologies».

The event was attended by Aide to the President Andrey Fursenko, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Governor of the Tyumen Region Alexander Moor, Academicians of RAS, representatives of research institutes and universities of Russia and several foreign countries, top managers of industrial companies

The polygon was opened on the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in accordance with the instructions of president Vladimir Putin on creating a network of pilot carbon test sites for development and testing of carbon control technologies. In the Tyumen region, the project is implemented by Tyumen State University with the support of the governments of the Tyumen region, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, as well as the company SIBUR.

«Today, there is a very large block of projects related to carbon in the program of the West Siberian R&D Centre. Three of them, which are led by the world's leading scientists, are funded by regional mega-grants.  We are going into this project with SIBUR as a socially and environmentally oriented company and GreenEco Investments LLC, a company with a focus on practical implementation of projects in the field of decarbonization» - says Alexander Moor, Governor of the Tyumen Oblast.

«The climate is changing very significantly. One of the key problems today is the lack of reliable data on what is happening to the climate, what it depends on and how it is changing. It is the availability of this reliable data that will allow us to predict changes. To this end, a decision was made more than a year ago to create a system of carbon dumps» Andrey Fursenko said at the opening ceremony.

Also, as part of the event, GreenEco Investments LLC representatives got acquainted with the research equipment and attended a presentation of Russia's first strategic intensive educational programs for carbon landfill operators.

*a Carbon polygon is an area with a unique ecosystem for the development and testing of technologies for remote and ground control of greenhouse gas emissions and other metrics important for climate change on forested areas and agricultural land. Earlier the government of the Russian Federation approved the national adaptation plan to climate change up to 2022, according to which carbon polygons should be developed in several regions of the country.
